The first flight of the South Korean airline company Korean Air was welcomed today, on the 1st of September, with a traditional water salute. Korean Air will connect Zagreb and Seoul three times a week. Many distinguished guests were present to the inaugural ceremony: Jacques Feron, CEO of the Zagreb International Airport, His Excellency Park Won-sup, Ambassador of the Rebublic of Korea in the Republic of Croatia and His Excellency Damir Kušen, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in the Republic of Korea, Olivera Šarić, Minister Assistant at the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Croatia, Martina Bienenfeld, Head of Zagreb Tourist Board and many others. They all agreed that this line comes at the right time – the time of significant tourist growth in Zagreb and a significant increase in the number of visitors from South Korea. Moreover, the new airline company with its flight will further contribute to positive results and the growth of passenger traffic that Franjo Tuđman Airport continuously records since the opening of the new passenger terminal.
Till the end of the summer timetable the flight will be a direct line, while, during the winter timetable, it will go through Zürich (Seoul- Zagreb- Zürich-Seoul). During September and October Korean Air will fly Airbus A330-200 aircraft on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, leaving Seoul (ICN) at 11:05, arriving in Zagreb at 15:45. The return flight from Zagreb to Seoul will departure at 17:20 with the arrival on the next day at 11:30. During the winter timetable Korean Air will fly the Boeing 787-9 – Dreamliner 269-seat aircraft. The line will fly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with the departure from Seoul at 11:25, arriving to Zagreb at 14:55, from Zagreb it will go to Zürich at 17:00, with the arrival in Zurich at 18:40, from where it will go to Seoul at 20:55, arriving to Seoul at 15:35.
"We are extremely proud that our efforts in connecting Zagreb with Asia all year round and in continually enriching the overall offer of flights show results. This is the third line that connects Zagreb to Asia through the whole year, but this one is opening a whole new market that is very familiar with Zagreb as a tourist destination. Namely, almost half a million South Korea's tourists visited Croatia last year and therefore we believe that this line will strongly contribute to the continued positive results recorded at Franjo Tudjman Airport, as well to the tourist results and the image of Zagreb", said Jacques Feron, CEO of the Zagreb International Airport. He also reminded that this year Franjo Tuđman Airport recorded most positive results in its history regarding the passenger traffic. Moreover, compared to last year, there is a cumulative increase in passenger numbers by 9%.
