AI-R-Port takes the win in the "Play Your Airport" Competition Final - the first-prize project offers information via WhatsApp in any language, catering to your needs while waiting for a flight or passengers at Zagreb Airport.
Whether you’re still in the parking lot while check-in has already started, can’t find your gate, don’t understand the airport announcements, or simply need something to entertain you while waiting for your flight, the solution is within reach. All you need to do is send a WhatsApp message, and within seconds, you'll receive personalized and accurate information in your language. This is all part of the solution developed by the Croatian company Maistral, which won the "Play Your Airport" challenge with their innovative project.
"The project focuses on enhancing the passenger experience. Not only does WhatsApp provide all flight and airport information within seconds, but the app also offers perks like collecting points that can later be exchanged for a cheaper coffee or a discount at the Duty-Free Shop", said Saša Jovetić, Director of Maistral. Their solution, AI-R-Port was one of 16 finalists competing in this challenge, which was held for the first time in Croatia.
Second place was awarded to the project Sign Avatar, which offered a holographic solution for airport announcements in sign language. The third prize went to ZAG AIR-RMLD, which developed a solution for automatic monitoring of airport maneuvering areas using drones.
"Play Your Airport" was a multi-month project during which Zagreb Airport, in collaboration with Aéroports de Paris, provided various startups and interested individuals the opportunity to develop ideas to improve operations and the customer experience at Zagreb Airport. The best ideas were presented in two rounds of live competition before a panel of experts. On final round on Wednesday Sep 4, eight finalists presented their projects, and the expert panel selected the best.
"Play Your Airport challenge in Zagreb, which has been a journey through various innovations, creativity, and collaboration, concluded today. We would like to thank all participants for their contributions and excellent projects in this challenge, which was organized in partnership with Groupe ADP. We thank the jury for selecting the best of the best. Congratulations to all the winning projects for their interesting and innovative solutions and thank you for helping us create a better future at Zagreb Airport", said Huseyin Bahadir Bedir, CEO Zagreb Airport.
The projects competed in three categories: Green Airport, Process Automation, and Customer Experience. The top idea was awarded 5.000€, a visit to the ADP Innovation Center in Paris, and up to six months of mentoring support from experts at Zagreb Airport. Second and third-place competitors received cash prizes of3.000 € and 2.000€, respectively.
"Play Your Airport" challenge has been held in Paris for the past three years and last year in Madagascar. Similar solutions were among the more than thirty projects submitted for this competition, but the Zagreb jury favored innovative ideas that use AI technology to improve the customer experience
